The Hierarchy of the Nervous System

The Hierarchy of the Nervous System

Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory (PVT) elucidates the nuances of the mammalian nervous system and underlies our perception, informs our actions and influences the quality of our relationships and our lives. The Polyvagal Theory is a scientifically grounded view of the autonomic nervous system that integrates what we understand evolutionarily and physiologically and creates a state of inquiry with modern day interest in living a whole life. There are three organizing principles of the PVT: 1) Hierarchy, 2) Neuroception and 3) Co-regulation.

During this two hour, virtual immersion into the PVT through the hierarchy of the ventral vagal complex, sympathetic nervous system and the dorsal vagal complex. The root of the word hierarchy is "sacred ruler". We will uncover our innate "sacred ruler".

The Polyvagal Theory for Yoga Teachers

How Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory (PVT) underlies our perception, informs our actions and influences the quality of our relationships and our lives.

The Polyvagal Theory is a scientifically grounded view of the autonomic nervous system that integrates what we understand evolutionarily and physiologically and creates a state of inquiry with modern day pathophysiology and specifically, clinical psychology. Stephen Porges, PhD has elucidated a continuum of nervous system expression with a refined range of possible expressions that extend beyond fight/flight or rest/digest, while honoring and appreciating the body’s innate wisdom.

The objective of this six week online course is to distill the polyvagal theory (aka the science of connection) in a scientifically sound manner into a language that meets the needs of a yoga teacher to seamlessly integrate the PVT into teaching group classes and individual sessions, creating the conditions for long-term, sustainable wellness for themselves, their clients and their communities. Specifically, the gunas will be explored in relationship to the PVT.

Tending to the Whole Self

Tending to the Whole Self

The invitation is to show up and to be. Consider this a sampling of nourishing ways to relate to the inner landscape, which is also known as sensations and emotions and often times captured in the umbrella of mental health. Our modern society has nearly mastered the masculine approach of relating to this inner landscape - medications and other evidence based therapeutics. This weekend is to allow for the space for Tending to the Whole Self, which means a feminine approach of being and relating to our inner landscape. This can be a sensitive, tender process and we are here to bear witness with care and play. The workshop is created as a container to shift from concern to curiosity.

The event is curated in three courses, like a celebratory meal, with a total of seven samplings. For details on the samplings, guides and investment, visit this page.

First Course

Friday Apr 5, 7-9pm: Gather to Open the Space

Second Course

Saturday Apr 6, 1:00-6:30pm: Wake Up Our Creative Potential

Third Course

Sunday Apr 7, 1:00-6:30pm: Weaving the Vital Ways of Being
